About ModaBLOK

01.
What is a breeze block?
A breeze block is a concrete block cast with an open pattern. Laid in courses, the blocks form a screen wall that filters light and air while keeping a sense of privacy. ModaBLOK is our family of architectural breeze blocks, cast in Tecate, Baja México. KUBE, TERRA, ORBIT, STEP and TIDE are hyper-pressed with our HyperCast process; ALVA is wet-cast.
02.
What sizes are ModaBLOK breeze blocks, and how many do I need per square foot?
KUBE is 6.5 × 6.5 × 4 in., about 3.4 blocks per sq ft. ORBIT, STEP and TIDE are 7.5 × 7.5 × 4 in., about 2.56 per sq ft. TERRA is 15 × 9 × 4 in., about 1.1 per sq ft; ALVA is 9.84 × 9.84 × 1.96 in., about 1.1 per sq ft. The coverage calculator on the product page turns your wall area, plus 5–15% overage, into a block count. Free 3D models (OBJ, FBX, STL, GLB) are on each block's page.
03.
What colors do ModaBLOK breeze blocks come in?
KUBE, ORBIT, STEP and TIDE come in Natural, Gray, Sand and Graphite. ALVA comes in Sage, Gray, Sand, White and Graphite. TERRA is offered in the four ModaBLOK colors, but three of them are made on request, so ask us to confirm color for your timeline. The pigment runs through the full block, and natural variation from block to block is expected.
04.
Can breeze blocks be used indoors and outdoors?
Yes. Outdoors, ModaBLOK is used for entry walls, garden screens, courtyards, patios, pool surrounds and façades. Indoors, it is used for partitions that keep light moving between spaces. TERRA and ALVA are both described for indoor and outdoor use, and the color is integral pigment through the whole block. For an exterior wall that is tall, freestanding or exposed to wind, have a licensed structural engineer design it.
05.
How is a breeze block wall built, and can it be structural?
There are two common methods. Low garden screens and interior partitions can be set in mortar or masonry adhesive. Walls that need engineering use vertical rebar and grout; KUBE and TERRA have precut rebar channels on two adjacent sides. Heights, spans and anchoring, and any freestanding, tall, wind-loaded, seismic or load-bearing wall, must be designed by a licensed structural engineer to your local code. The ORBIT and STEP pages also link a spec sheet.
06.
Can I get a sample block before I order?
Yes. ModaBLOK is sampled by the block: use Order a Sample on the block's product page, or ask us for a single block. The color comes from natural pigment, so real blocks vary from one to the next and can differ from screen images. A block on site, in your own light, is the way to judge color before you place a full order.
07.
How long does a ModaBLOK order take, and how does it ship?
ModaBLOK is made to order. Production takes 3–4 weeks, or 4–6 weeks for the wet-cast ALVA, plus up to a week to ship. Full orders travel by LTL freight on pallets to a curbside address, with liftgate service available. A pallet holds 294 KUBE, 216 ORBIT, STEP or TIDE, or 84 TERRA blocks. Freight is calculated by weight at checkout, and the carrier contacts you to arrange delivery. See our shipping policy.
